Man Utd Intensify Sesko Pursuit as Amorim Pushes Squad Overhaul, City’s Trafford Move Shakes Market

Manchester United Ramp Up Sesko Chase While Amorim Reshapes the Squad

Manchester United’s transfer window is anything but quiet. The club is deep in negotiations with RB Leipzig over the transfer of striker Benjamin Sesko, who could land at Old Trafford for a hefty £64 million plus add-ons. Sources close to the deal say United have made Sesko their priority target up front, but the search isn’t stopping there. Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins is also on the radar, although Villa is playing their cards close to the chest and Watkins’ availability is unclear. A potential bidding war could erupt if United make their interest formal, as Watkins’ performances last season turned plenty of heads.

Amid all the movement, United boss Ruben Amorim has been blunt about his intentions for the squad. Despite rumors that Sesko’s arrival might push Rasmus Højlund out, Amorim suggested he still counts on the young Danish striker. That’s sparked talk that the Portuguese manager wants multiple attacking threats in his new-look United side, instead of just rotating strikers in and out. The shake-up at the front could route out underperformers and give the club a sharper edge after their disappointing campaign.

The summer clean-out under Amorim has already hit hard. Five players — Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia — have been sidelined as Amorim demands more energy and consistency. Luke Shaw recently commented that there are “no stragglers” left, praising the new boss’s no-nonsense approach as just what the dressing room needed.

United are also eyeing upgrades between the posts. Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma sits near the top of their list. His combination of youth and big-game experience appeals to United executives, but a deal looks complex. Another name popping up is Newcastle’s Nick Pope – whose future could hinge on whether Aaron Ramsdale lands at St James’ Park. If Newcastle snag Ramsdale, Pope might be available for a switch to United. The club is cautious, though, not to rush into binding deals for either, checking the ripple effect each option could cause among other Premier League clubs trying to rejig their squads.

The goalkeeper shuffle got even more interesting after Manchester City jumped in to re-sign James Trafford from Burnley for £27 million. That move took shape when City triggered a buy-back clause, overtaking Newcastle, who had initially agreed terms. Trafford had once been linked with a potential United deal involving Garnacho, but City’s swoop has shut that door. This sort of aggressive, quick-fire business has set a tone for the summer’s transfer window, illustrating how the top English clubs are willing to flex financial muscle—and sometimes snatch deals right from each other’s grasp.

United’s transfer flurry began early with a £62.5 million move for Matheus Cunha. The size of the deal opened eyes and quickly became a benchmark for other teams pricing out their stars, like Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo or West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus. United’s high spend signals they’re serious about chasing silverware and also changes the math for every club in the market this summer.

As the window continues, all eyes will be on whether United can secure their key attacking and goalkeeping targets—and if Amorim’s tough new regime gels fast enough to deliver the results the club craves.
