Indesit is one of the biggest makers of home appliances in Europe. Indesit was founded by Aristide Merloni as Industrie Merloni in 1930. Their first commodity was the liquid gas bottles and domestic boilers. They also used to sell gas hobs to be used with liquid gas. Slowly they graduated towards home appliances under the name of Ariston. After the death of their founder the company was divided into three separate and independent businesses, Merloni Elettrodomestici and an engineering division. Merloni Elettrodomestici acquired Indesit their main rivals in the competition in1985. In 2005 Merloni Eletrrodomestici was renamed Indesit Company as they are one of the best known of the group outside Italy. After two years they were listed on the stock exchange.
